Dear Prof Blackstone, I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Faiz, a student in your critical thinking and communicating class. I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and share with you my goals for this module. I graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic with a diploma in robotics and mechatronics in 2021. My interest in engineering stems from my childhood. Having been raised on a farm in Malaysia, my siblings and I didn't have much to do for fun. The Importance of Communication Skills for Engineers

"Communication skills are an essential component in the education of engineering students to facilitate not just students' education but also to prepare them for their future careers."      Marc Riemer, Faculty of Engineering, Monash University (2007) My partner and I agree with the statement above. We think that professors need to be able to deliver the learning material in an engaging and precise manner in order to properly impart knowledge onto the students who will become the next generation of engineers. Furthermore, we believe that communication is a two way street and as such students also need to do their part by voicing out their concerns and not be afraid to ask for help.

Critical Reflection

As stated in my formal introductory letter, written at the start of the module, my personal goals from this module were to improve my formal writing. Now, nearing the end of the module, I feel that this module has helped to improve my report writing skills, such as using proper citations and how to make full use of GAI to help me in my writing. Thanks to the constructive feedback from my professor and peers, I was able to tweak my writing as needed in order to enhance the clarity and effectiveness in conveying a message. This has taught me to take feedback more seriously, as it is a great learning opportunity. During the project, I learned to collaborate with others, discussing ideas, splitting tasks and providing feedback. This has helped me improve my interpersonal skills. Furthermore, the feedback during the mock oral presentation was really useful in improving my verbal communication skills.
